Effects of DaeBangPoong-Tang on Lipid Peroxidation of Rat Kidney and Liver

Abstract
This study was carried out in order to investigate whether DaeBangPoong-Tang (DBPT) has inhibitory effect of lipid peroxidation in rat kidney and liver slices. DBFT was composed of Rehmanniae Radix Preparat, Atractyldis Macrocephalae Rhuoma, Ledebouriellae Radix, Angelicae Gigantis Radix, Paeoniae Radix Alba, Eucommiae Cortex, Astragali Radix, Aconiti Lateralis Preparata Radix, Cnidii Rhizoma, Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, Notopterygii Rhizoma, Ginseng Radix, Glycyrrhizae Radix, Jujubae Fructus and Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens. DBPT was widely used in diseases concerned with degenerative articular malfunction and was admitted to have its own effects. However, like many other oriental prescriptions, it s biological toxicity was not investigated. In this study, when incubated 60 mins, 20 and 40% concentration of DBPT decreased lipid peroxidation of rat kidney slices, and 10, 20, 30 and 40% concentration of DBPT, rat liver slices. Incubated with 1 mM tea-butyl hydroperoxide (well known oxidant), DBPT inhibited oxidant induced lipid peroxidation of rat kidney and liver slices. Through this study, DBPT showed no toxicity in rat kidney and liver tissues in virro, and possibility of potential anti-oxidant effect.
